Peter Spann Film Maker

Peter Spann FilmAll my life I’ve wanted to make movies.  The first time I heard the camera click over on a film I was Directing I paused for a moment to just savour it.  I cried.  We were filming a comedy.   The crew thought this most odd!

It’s like everything in my system has been switched on, turned up, super charged.

I have made magic and I have made rubbish.  And yet I know, when I am on set time slows and fastens at once.

I sit mesmerised by words I have written coming alive in the hands, hearts and passion of these beasts called actors and moments later I see it enhanced, enlarged and energised by talented crew.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with international stars like Josh Lawson, and Australian Film and TV stars like Abby Earl, Benedict Wall, Toby Truslove, Michelle Langstone, and Rupert Reid, as well as up and coming actors like Ben Hamilton, Jacqui Purvis, and Hamish Street.

This is what I want to do for every second of what’s left of my life.

What Peter Spann Can Do

In addition to Directing my own films I have been employed as a 1st and 2nd Assistant Director.  I am very proficient at planning, making things work within time and budget, moving things along while being respectful of the creative process and making things both fun and professional on set.  I also make a great Production Manager.

Current Projects – Peter Spann Film Maker

SYDNEY

“Sydney” is a short film about what we do to the people we love.

Written, Produced, & Directed by Peter Spann with Cinematography by David Ross the film is a deeply personal reflection on the extremes people will go to in their lives.

It is very much a different direction for Peter Spann Film and is currently in post production with a release anticipated around September 2018.

UNDERTOW

“Undertow” is a coming of age drama about Bella who is just trying to get through her first day after rehab.

Written by Laura Bloom, Directed by Peter Spann with Cinematography by David Ross the film has gone through an extensive development period with many versions of its script, and is now having considerable success on the festival circuit.

Undertow was made as a proof of concept for a TV series so now we start the task of finding a distributor to take on the series for Peter Spann Film.

MAMMON

8 Episode (7 to 12 minutes each) Web Series + Final Episode to Come

The Edge of 17 Film Review

There’s a wonderfully quaint feel to The Edge of 17, a comedy drama about an abrasive teen, that you reluctantly learn to love. Perhaps it’s the 80’s nostalgia, which will make you redefine your youth, it’s got all of the air and depraved realness of The Breakfast Club. The Edge Of Seventeen is a film making […]

Nocturnal Animals – Film Review

Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals is a seductively dangerous tale. A film that makes you question your being, shakes you to the core and leaves you in an entirely different mindset. That makes the concept of genre’s redundant. At a push Nocturnal Animals could be defined as a psychodrama, yet it harnesses all of the elements […]

Thoughts

Are you having fun?

I’m always asked if I’m having fun when I’m filming. It’s a tough question because I am acutely aware that I am doing something that I love, but the answer is very ambiguous… Film making is about as fun as landing troops on a beach in battle.  Like, you get to see new things, and […]
